This is the webpage of the project The Emergence of Topicalisation in European Portuguese, carried out by Aroldo de Andrade during his postdoctoral fellowship at University of Campinas. This effort is part of a greater Thematic Project named Portuguese in Time and Space: Linguistic Contact, Grammars in Competition and Parametric Change, coordinated by Prof. Charlotte Galves.
The project focus is the study of topicalisation in European Portuguese, the construction where a marked topic co-occurs with a gap: its properties, emergence, and finally its crosslinguistic availability (in view of the fact that other modern Romance languages do not exhibit this construction).
We thank The São Paulo State Research Foundation (Fapesp) for sponsoring these projects with grants nr. 2011/19235-2 and 2012/06078-9.
